Notes

Bit Part is one of four new plays commissioned by the Stephen Joseph Theatre and produced under the title Screenplay. The plays are: An Empty Seat; The Illicit Dark; Double Feature; Bit Part.
The Screenplay plays were produced either in pairs as lunchtime time shows in The McCarthy auditorium or all together as a full evening's production in The McCarthy.
All the plays are linked by Scarborough's Odeon cinema (which is now the home of the Stephen Joseph Theatre) and each play is set in a different period of the cinema's existence.
Bit Part is the odd one out of the Screenplay plays. Whilst all the rest could, theoretically, all have taken place during the Scarborough Odeon cinema's history, Bit Part actually does not make sense historically as it is set during the premiere of the Scarborough-based film Little Voice. This was released in 1998, 10 years after the Odeon had closed and two years after the building had re-opened as the Stephen Joseph Theatre. Whilst the SJT can show movies (and did indeed show Little Voice), the cinema portrayed in Bit Part is quite patently not the SJT and is a regular cinema.
